Blackstone pending Concrete and Road work – Additional Information

Concrete Work: This work is starting 9/14 or 9/20 (still to be confirmed). Please be mindful of construction workers and equipment during this time.  

Below is a visual of the work that will be taking place in Blackstone.  Each point represents a location that will receive concrete work.

• 99%+ of the concrete locations noted above, will receive full concrete removal and replacement.  The boxes in the visual above shows the exact location of replacements planned.
• Less than 1% of the locations as seen above will be concrete patched (in photos above).  Concrete structures that have minor gouges or other imperfections that do not require will removal and replacement, will be concrete patched.

Future roadway work:

This work is starting following concrete work in late September/early October (still to be confirmed). Please be mindful of construction workers and equipment during this time.

The roadways highlighted in yellow, will receive an application of slurry seal in late September/early October (weather permitting).  It will be the same application that was applied last year within the southwest quadrant of Blackstone. The purpose of the slurry seal placement operation is to extend the life of the asphalt pavement by sealing the micro-cracks, to slow-down the UV deterioration of the pavement, and reduce water infiltration into the supporting base and subbase of the pavement structure.  Added benefit of this application includes improved skid resistance (for safety).

More on exact dates and road closures will be shared with residents by both the District and the City when confirmed.

Aurora has advised the District of 2 upcoming projects that are starting in the next 1-2 weeks of September throughout Blackstone, likely completing this Fall season.
1) Road Slurry Seal Placement – aka ‘new asphalt’ on the roads.  The area in Yellow is scheduled for this month/Fall. Green streets were completed in 2019 and Red streets are planned for 2021 – and grey streets will be beyond.

2) Sidewalk patches/replacement is also included in this project scope.  Medians, sidewalks where damage has occurred over the years in Blackstone. You have probably noticed white spray paint lines to give you an indicator of what will be replaced.
Both of these projects mean active construction workers, trucks and equipment (and likely additional noise) during the project.  We have asked the City to provide clear communications on roadway closures/redirections when that is necessary – so we can share with residents on what to expect and when.  As more information is shared with us, we will share immediately with you!

The neighborhood is getting the necessary revisions many have been asking about – this is great news!!
